When God is testing your faith for something bigger

When God is testing your faith for something much bigger what do most people do?  Most people will turn away from God ask God why me, why are you letting these things happen to me, why are you letting these things happen in my life?  Why God, Why!!!

What about the test of faith that Jesus went through on the cross, did he not cry asking his father “Why have you forsaken me?” Did his father forsake him?  Did his father abandon him?  No, his father was right alongside him, carrying him through the struggle that he faced upon that cross.  Jesus knew early on in his life what his purpose would be, that he would have to pay for our sins with his life.  I’m sure at times it had to weigh heavy on him.  But. Jesus held strong to his faith, strong to promise that his father would be by his side, giving him strength and guidance through it all.

I see a loving church family that I hold close to my heart holding strong to their faith, praising God through yet another storm.  God had truly put them to the test this past year and they continually praise him and seek his face.  Shelby is a very hard worker, always provided for his family and last year in July he needed to have a routine surgery.  Well that routine surgery went wrong and it has changed their lives forever.  He has had to have multiple procedures, to see if there is anything else that can be done to correct the issue.  He cannot stand for long periods of time, so he has not been able to return to work.  He may never be able to return to work as the doctors are now saying that this will be his condition for the rest of his life.  Shelby is a very proud man, does not like to ask for anything and I admire him for that.

Shelby is the leader of the worship team at Calumet Baptist Church and he loves playing music.  His voice just hits you and lets the Spirit of the Lord come in.  We sure miss him and the team when they are not able to play.  He and his family are a true blessing to our church.  His wife Edwina is the head of Secret Sisters, she prepares a devotion for us when we meet each month.  It’s not always a fancy meeting but, it is time to share with our sisters in Christ and we need that girl fellowship.  We draw names at the beginning of the year and we are told it’s not about buying gifts for your secret sister it’s about praying for them and being there spiritually when they need you.  She puts a lot into the monthly preparation.

Even though they are going through one of the biggest storms in their lives, they are steadfast in holding onto the promise of God.  The promise that God will give them strength to face each day, that God will provide for them and protect them.  And provide for them he has, Edwina once said that she had posted on a social media site certain items that she needed and strangers brought them boxes of supplies.  God provided their needs.  Isn’t it amazing how God sees our needs and he sends earth angels to our rescue.

I am going to leave you with a few words of wisdom from the best source in the world…..The Bible

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”   (Proverbs 3:5, 6 NKJV)
Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light and your judgment as the noonday.
Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes. (Psalm 37:5-7 NAS)

[When we surrender our lives to our Lord, He will direct our thoughts as well as our paths.
We must trust and obey Him; no longer our will, but His will be done in us.]

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.”
“Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the Lord upholds him with His hand.”
“I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread.”
“Wait on the Lord, And keep His way, and He shall exalt you to inherit the land; When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.”
(Psalm 37:23-25, 34 NKJV)

Keep standing in your faith, keep praising God through this storm, keep holding onto that promise that this storm will end.  Keep being a beacon in the night for others that need to see true faith.  God is with you, he will see you through.
